As Father’s Day 2025 approaches, families everywhere are making plans to celebrate. For one particular person, an early dinner celebration is underway, and in the car, a song fills the air. It’s the voice of Burch Boy, a hip-hop artist hailing from the Triad, NC area, as he recites “Bloody Eyes 2”, a new track from his upcoming EP, #MCZID2 (My Comfort Zone is Dead 2). The song, with its repetitive hook, “I took losses, I took losses,” is a raw and honest preview of what’s to come, a follow-up to his 2021 EP, #MCZID.

It began in 2020, a year filled with many memories as it was the start of a global pandemic, Covid-19 pandemic to be exact. But for Burch, it was also a time when he chose to tap into a lifelong gift: music. During this period, he struggled with depression and anxiety. The weight of uncertainty bore down on him, stress over not seeing his daughter, the demands of finishing college, and the struggle to find stable employment, all combined with a world on lockdown.

One day, sitting in his room, Burch simply had enough. He was tired of letting negative thoughts consume him. He vividly recalled in an interview, “Bro, it was as if I was the Undertaker from WWE, and I popped right up.” In that moment, he knew he had to get his thoughts out of his head and onto paper. Soon after, he embarked on regular trips from Winston-Salem, NC, to Charlotte, NC, to record six songs at Gat3 Studios, that would eventually form his debut studio EP, MCZID.

Looking back to 2021 and listening to those initial tracks, then fast-forwarding to today, sharing his music with his family, one thing remains constant: the lyrical honesty. However, Burch Boy has undeniably evolved in how he handles life’s stresses. Instead of succumbing to the thoughts that once spiraled into depression, he now channels his experiences into his art, whether by writing rhymes in his phone or sharing videos of himself rapping.

“I’m Free, Finally free from being trapped,” he reflects. “To be honest, Covid-19 freed me. I knew I couldn’t just sit in the house and allow the depressions and anxieties of life take a toll on me.” His music isn’t just a creative outlet; it’s a testament to his resilience and a powerful reminder that even in the darkest of times, there’s always a path to reclaiming your comfort zone and, ultimately, your freedom.
